Pelvic organ prolapse is a condition where the vagina drops causing characteristic symptoms of uncomfortable vaginal pressure or bulge. Some women need to use their finger to push up the vaginal walls for comfort, or empty their bladders or have bowel movements. Pelvic organ prolapse is evaluated by pelvic exam in the office. Pelvic organ prolapse can be treated with a pessary device or with surgical repair. Surgical repair may be performed vaginally or laparoscopically.
