Overactive bladder is urinary urgency with or without urinary incontinence. Overactive bladder is evaluated with urinalysis and urine culture to rule out urinary tract infection. Overactive bladder can be treated with lifestyle, behavioral, and dietary modifications such as timed voids, fluid restriction, and caffeine reduction. Overactive bladder can also be treated with pharmacological therapy such as anticholinergic medications or beta 3 agonists to decrease urinary urgency and frequency. Pelvic floor physical therapy, bladder botox, PTNS and sacral neuromodulation are also treatment options.
